One of the things I love to do and I am sure most of you will want to do is get out and see the beautiful country we are in! When you first arrive you may not have a vehicle waiting for you. However, don't let that stop you from going to see the area. The Army MWR has adventure trips that are either day or weekend trips booked through the MWR. The Outdoor Recreation Center on Grafenwoehr is Wild Boar Outdoor Recreation.
Every six-months MWR will publish a "Passport to Adventure" guide. It is free, and can always be found at Wild Boar, and sometimes at the hotel. They offer so many great trips that I am surprised they are not advertised more! Which is why I wanted to put in a little page about them. Here is a link to the Summer 2015 Passport to Adventure Guide. Inside you will find trips that leave from Grafenwoehr, and other locations in Bavaria. It is easy to see which ones are for what areas. You will also have a short description of what the trip is about. To get more details you will need to contact Wild Boar directly. While you may feel some of the prices are high just for transportation, remember all you have to do is sit and enjoy the scenery while someone else navigates the roads and handles parking. To me it is well worth it. One thing they don't mention is that if you are on a long trip, the driver will stop about every 4 hours on the autobahn for you to eat. It is usually at a McDonalds. The buses all have restrooms in them for you. There is limited room to store things in the carriage of the bus. You may be able to store it underneath. Most people brings drinks and snacks with them on the trips.
If you are interested in a trip do sign up for it early. There are two reasons for this. Some of the really popular trips sell out fast! The Polish Pottery trip is one of them, Berlin is another. Other times, there may not be enough people signed up and they will cancel the trip! In case of cancellations you will get your money back.
