The Kitchen Sink - Seriously it is about the sink

I thought I would share some of the things I had to figure out once I moved into my house.  One thing is the kitchen sink, at least in most of the German houses leased by the Army are small.  The typical one is a divided sink without disposal. I haven't heard of anyone having a disposal in Germany. Don't worry I will talk about that as well. I will use a lot of pictures to convey what I am talking about.

Typical Sink

You will obviously have drains in your sink, but you need to know that they are not adequate to stop unwanted food particles from going down them and clogging up your drains.
Sink without drain protector. I put a fork in there for size  comparison.

What you need to do is go to your local German Market. I chose Edeka, and picked up some little strainer inserts.

The strainers come in sets of two. You can choose silver, or white. You will also want to get a set for your shower drains as well.  They simply sit in your drain. When they get food in them you simply pick them up once the water has drained out and tap the contents into your trash can.
The finished product!
Now these are made of a heavy plastic. Don't pour hot oil or set hot pans on them it will ruin them.
