I went over and found the Self Help store here on post. I wanted to find out, as most of you do, what it is they offer at this post. I was really pleased. Here is the scoop:
If you are in government leased housing (on post or off) you will get a lawn mower, rakes, and shovel checked out to you for the duration of your tour! This is wonderful. This means you won't need to drive to the self-help and check out a mower every time you need it. They also have drills you can check out and a large variety of screws of all sorts. They even have paint and caulk on hand for you to get (and keep). They have carpet cleaners as well (3-day check out)! They will also give you a garden hose to use!
When you get your home it may or may not have newly painted walls and the carpets may need to be cleaned. If this is the case don't worry too much. Remember you leave it in the condition you sign for it. So get yourself down to self help and rent a carpet cleaner (I hear they are amazing), and some paint to get your home just where you want it. Also most houses you are free to paint the walls as long as you return them to white. So here you go, an easy way to turn a frustration into something positive.
They have other things as well. You will just have to go look at what is in at the moment. If it is like other self helps a lot of things are out depending on what they were sent. I am hoping they get in some plants like some of the California self helps had. That would be fun! But definitely a wish. They are also the collection point for household hazardous waste. Please follow the link I put above for details and more great information!
After I get my things checked out to me I will post photos of what I received. I hope this helps and alleviates some of the stress of not moving your lawn mower and yard tools with you.
