Lodging is going to be your top priority if you want to make sure you have a room that is both pet friendly and large enough for your family to be comfortable in for the duration of your stay.  You can have it all if you are proactive and engage your sponsor.

This is what I recommend.  As soon as you have orders email the lodging office and let them know when you plan on being here, and if you want a family suite, and if you have pets. Then let your sponsor know so they can follow up and verify you have reservations.  I realize you will be guessing on your arrival date, but it's easier to adjust than to not have a reservation at all. Also, I reserved for 60-days.  Plan on being in lodging at least 30 days.  If you are here less than that is great. But while you are in lodging you don't have to worry about driving anywhere because everything is in walking distance. Take advantage of being so close to the post.

There are Family Suites and regular rooms at the Army Lodge - Tower Barracks. They also have pet friendly rooms. If you have pets be sure and get a pet friendly room set up as soon as possible.  We have the pet friendly family suite. Let me tell you what it is like. It has one bedroom that is separated from the eat in kitchen/living room area.  In the living room we have a fold out, full-size, sofa bed.

Kitchen:
The kitchen has a table and four chairs, a two burner stove, a 4-cup coffee maker, ice bucket, dishes for a family of 4 (you can get more for a larger family), a few pans for basic cooking, silverware and mugs for 4, a small fridge and freezer, a microwave and dishwasher.

Living Room:
The living room area has the sofa, a side table with lamp, a 3 drawer dresser with TV, and regular DVD player, on top, a desk with a chair, phone, lamp and a coffee table.

Bedroom:
The bedroom has a queen size bed, a large closed on one wall with an ironing board, iron, and a safe in it. A wardrobe with plenty of hanging space, a 3 drawer dresser, night stands and lamps, and a phone.

Bathroom:
The bathroom has a full sized bathtub, and toilet that are separate from the sink and vanity which are both accessible from the main part of the hotel room.

Maid Service:
The maid service is great here. They are very accommodating and helpful.

Breakfast:
Weekdays: 0600-0900
Weekends: 0700-1000
In the main lobby they have breakfast every day. What they offer is: Hard boiled eggs, milk, orange juice, apple juice, yogurt, coffees, tea, hot chocolate, hot milk, instant oatmeal, muffins, bagels, fruit cups and cereal. There are several tables down in the dining area if you choose to eat down there and get a break from your room.  Or you can load up everything you want and bring it up to your room to eat.

Entertainment:
At the main desk you can ask to see their list of DVD's which you can check out for Free!  There is also AFN television with 42 channels to choose from. Of those five are German speaking, and three are Spanish.  If you brought your game system with you and want to hook it up you can. Just make sure you get a transformer from the PX first.

Laundry:
There are laundry rooms on each level of the hotel. However the machines are terribly slow. I recommend you grab some quarters and head across the street to the Launderette which is open 24-hours-a-day!

Shopping:
The PX and Commissary are just across the street from you.

Dining:
If you look under the PX post you will see a list of restaurants in the PX. There is also a Java Cafe, and a Burger King right next to the hotel.  There are also a few restaurants in town that deliver on post.  Ask for a list from the front desk when you arrive.

Cooking:
Yes you can cook in your room. Start to think of all the things you can create just using your stove top and limited pans. I have made chile, spaghetti, stew, and mac n cheese.  You can also pick up a 220V crock pot from the PX after you get here if you want more options.  If you are not sure what appliances are 220 at the PX just ask a sales associate for help.

ATM:
There is an ATM in the adjacent parking lot where you can withdraw cash or euro.

Ice Machine:
There is an ice machine in the hotel.

Gym:
There is not a gym in the hotel, however you can walk to the gym on post, it will take about 10 minutes or so, but it is a nice walk without any crazy hills or anything.
